Enough transparency to trust the decision. Not enough to copy the engine.
ChefQuote should help an operator understand what changed, why it matters, and what choice is on the table. This public page explains the evidence model, source boundaries, human review gates, and product safeguards without publishing calculations, scoring weights, thresholds, coefficients, or source-control mechanics.
ChefQuote should narrow operational noise into the few decisions that need owner judgment. Buyers should see the evidence path, missing-data boundaries, and available choices without receiving the protected calculation engine.
The trust model
Four properties hold true for the product without exposing the proprietary scoring system.
Public transparency should prove the product is disciplined. It should not publish enough detail for an outside party to reconstruct the scoring engine or private workflow logic.
Public evidence reference
This is the buyer-safe version of the method. It shows the types of evidence ChefQuote considers, the operator decision it supports, and the protection boundary. Exact formulas, scoring weights, thresholds, coefficients, and prioritization rules are private and belong behind account access.
| Evidence area | What the customer can understand | What remains protected |
|---|---|---|
| Food and menu economics | ChefQuote asks whether the menu promise is financially and operationally real: cost, yield, waste, inclusions, exclusions, prep burden, and service burden. | Protected IP Calculation sequence, adjustment logic, thresholds, and risk scoring. |
| Labor and capacity | The product separates prep, service, support, admin, coverage, station pressure, and burdened labor so hidden work cannot disappear into a clean quote. | Protected IP Role weighting, pressure bands, readiness scoring, and prioritization mechanics. |
| Cash and commitment risk | ChefQuote highlights whether payment timing, deposits, vendor spend, payroll timing, and exposure support the commitment. | Protected IP Cash-risk model, escalation rules, and owner-action ranking. |
| Actuals and variance | After service, estimates are compared to real revenue, cost, labor, guest count, travel, packaging, outcome, and explanation. | Protected IP Variance weighting, return conditions, eligibility rules, and memory suggestion logic. |
| Human-side operating pressure | Schedule pressure, consecutive days, support, clarity, and direct aggregate feedback can support planning. Missing people data is shown as missing, not guessed. | Protected IP Planning index mechanics, signal blending, suppression rules beyond public policy, and action ranking. |
| Recommendation and owner action | The user sees the suggested next move in plain language: accept, reprice, revise, hold, decline, save memory, or reject memory. | Protected IP Recommendation rules, formulas, weights, confidence model, and threshold bands. |
Buyer-safe proof
The public example shows the decision path, not the engine.
Potential customers should see the decision focus clearly: what the operator is deciding, which evidence categories are visible, where data is missing, and what human judgment controls. The protected workspace contains the calculation and scoring layer.
How the crew load read is framed
ChefQuote keeps operating pressure separate from protected human feedback. Schedule records and manager-entered plans can support planning, but they do not measure a person's morale, health, loyalty, or intent to stay.
| Review category | Customer-safe explanation | Protected boundary |
|---|---|---|
| Physical and cognitive load | Workload, pace, complexity, holding, allergens, and service burden are reviewed as operating conditions. | Private scoring, weighting, and pressure bands. |
| Control and clarity | Role clarity, autonomy, scope certainty, and timing certainty help frame whether the plan is executable. | Private prioritization logic and thresholds. |
| Recovery and support | Rest, decompression support, continuity, and manager support are surfaced only within stated limits. | Private signal blending and suppression mechanics. |
| Direct feedback | Recognition, fairness, voice, support, and psychological safety require qualifying aggregate survey evidence. | Individual responses, free text, and under-threshold groups are suppressed. |
The honest part: the public research references justify reviewing workload, control, recovery, fairness, and resources. They do not publish or validate ChefQuote's private weighting, thresholds, or planning index. The read supports operating judgment; it is not a clinical, diagnostic, psychometric, safety, or employment-decision instrument.
When direct human feedback is missing, stale, or suppressed, ChefQuote says "not available." It does not infer recognition, support, fairness, voice, or psychological safety from schedules or manager plans.
Illustrative role-cost scenario
This hypothetical scenario demonstrates operator-entered evidence and review controls. It does not predict whether a real cook will leave or attach a probability to a person.
- Operating factsHours, consecutive days, breaks, short turns, coverage, and overtime remain auditable facts.Entered
- Manager planning reviewChefQuote organizes manager-entered categories for planning attention only; the protected engine decides how the review is prioritized.Private
- Vacancy-cost scenarioThe operator enters a replacement, ramp, rework, and management-time scenario; ChefQuote does not supply a role multiplier.Operator input
- Improvement packageReserve hours and a planned budget remain visible so the operator can compare possible action costs.Operator input
- Direct human feedbackRecovery, fairness, voice, recognition, support, and intent to stay come only from qualifying aggregate survey data.Separate
The comparison asks whether a proposed improvement cost is smaller than an operator-supplied vacancy-cost scenario. It is not proof of causation, avoided loss, return on investment, morale, or an individual's intent to leave.
Illustrative only. The public view shows the operator decision and evidence categories. Weighting, bands, scenario factors, reserve-hour rules, and prioritization mechanics remain protected product judgment, not calibrated worker-level predictions.
Standard practice vs protected product judgment
Blurring these two is how pricing tools lose credibility. The split here is explicit without exposing proprietary implementation.
Public copy should explain the decision discipline, not publish the recipe. Protected product judgment belongs inside account-gated workflows and, in production, behind authenticated server-side logic.
Protected IP boundary
This page is designed for buyers, reviewers, and operators who need confidence in ChefQuote without receiving the recipe. It explains the operating loop, evidence states, human review gates, and decision categories. It does not publish the calculation engine.
A static preview can protect casual access, but it cannot hide JavaScript from source inspection. Production IP protection requires account authentication and server-side calculation services for proprietary logic.
Closed-loop memory method
The public method explains the control pattern: ChefQuote compares estimates to actuals, checks whether the evidence is eligible, proposes a lesson only when the context is comparable, and requires the operator to accept, adjust, or reject the lesson with a written reason.
- Evidence eligibility: only reviewed completed work can inform future memory.
- Context matching: service type, menu burden, labor conditions, guest count, and operating constraints matter.
- Human gate: no lesson silently changes future decisions; the owner must approve the return condition.
- Audit trail: saved decisions keep source state, reason, actor, timestamp, and protected method-release label without exposing proprietary weights.
The formulas, thresholds, matching rules, prioritization weights, and specific memory eligibility mechanics are protected IP.
Daily operating read method
The daily read is explained publicly as a prioritization layer over saved operating evidence. It focuses the owner on the few choices that need attention now: commitments, pricing, labor and capacity, cash, execution, pipeline, people boundaries, and actuals/memory.
- What the customer sees: category, reason, evidence state, missing data, suggested next move, and whether human review is required.
- What the owner controls: which records are trusted, which lessons return, who can access private workflows, and whether a recommendation is accepted.
- What is protected: formulas, scoring weights, thresholds, confidence logic, urgency logic, ranking mechanics, and source-control rules.
Public copy should make the value clear: ChefQuote focuses attention on the decisions that need action. It should not expose the priority engine.
Limitations worth stating plainly
- Outputs are only as good as the inputs. A wrong yield percentage or an understated prep hour produces a confident, wrong number.
- Allocated overhead is an operator estimate. The tool cannot know your true fixed-cost split per service.
- Cost ratio bands vary by segment, region and service model. Treat the targets as a starting frame, not a rule.
- The crew read describes conditions on a job or shift. It is not a health assessment and must not be used as one, nor as the sole basis for an employment decision.
- This is not legal, tax, payroll, accounting or food-safety advice. Wage, tip-pooling and overtime rules vary by jurisdiction and change.

- Minimum cell size of five. No team-visible output is derived from fewer than five responses; below that it rolls up or is suppressed.
- Trends, not deltas. A score that moves the day after one person answers identifies them.
- Perception gap compares manager estimates with qualifying aggregate crew-reported experience at matched construct level. Display and prioritization rules remain protected.
- Free text categorised, never surfaced verbatim. Phrasing is identifying.
Structured intake and reconciliation
The public intake method explains the workflow boundary: imported data is mapped, checked, reconciled, and routed for operator review before it becomes part of the operating record. Missing data stays visible. Rejected data does not write memory.
- Imports and mapping: source type, mapping status, required fields, duplicate checks, and review state are visible to the user.
- Actuals and variance: closeout evidence is reviewed before it can affect future suggestions.
- People-signal controls: aggregate feedback rules are stated publicly; individual responses and suppressed groups stay protected.
- Protected implementation: formulas, scoring weights, source-control totals, formula versions, validation thresholds, commit mechanics, and parsing rules are private IP.
Imported schedule conditions and aggregate survey evidence can support planning only at the appropriate team or operating level. They must never be used to rank, discipline, terminate, reduce hours, allocate work against, or otherwise make an adverse decision about an individual.
